Corrosion Protectives overview

KORRiQ offers a comprehensive range of high quality, application focused, temporary protectives, inhibitors and additive packages. Many of our protective coatings are multifunctional and offer characteristics such as dewatering, demulsification, vapour phase inhibition and lubrication properties making them ideal for use as assembly fluids, prelubes and metalworking fluids where lubrication and corrosion protection are combined.

Millions of pounds worth of damage is caused each year by corrosion due to inadequate or incorrectly specified corrosion protectives.

Metallic parts after machining may have bare metal surfaces which require protection either between manufacturing processes or until brought into use. The metal to be protected may be ferrous, aluminium alloy, copper based alloys, or other non-ferrous materials, each of which may require a different performance property of the protective.

In some cases, the overall protection might need to be provided by a combination of protectives, such as a multifunctional dewatering protective coating in combination with a VCI (vapour phase corrosion inhibitors) outer wrapping.

When offering advice on which protective coating to evaluate we consider the following:

  • What metal or metals are being protected and how complex is the mechanism?
  • How will the protective be applied?
  • Is a dewatering additive required?
  • What length of protection is required?
  • How will the protective be removed?
  • Is the protective for indoor, covered outdoor or unsheltered outdoor protection?
  • Does the component need to be protected against an acid atmosphere such as in a pickling plant?
  • Does the protection need to withstand high humidity or high temperatures?
  • Is the protective required to perform another function such as an assembly fluid, pressing lubricant or prelube?

Correctly specified temporary corrosion protectives are essential to reduce the waste caused by corrosion.
